What is INBEC tablets
INBEC is a prescription-only, fixed-dose combination antiretroviral medication manufactured by Emcure Pharmaceuticals. It combines three active viral inhibitors into a single, film-coated daily tablet.
-
- Active Ingredients: Abacavir (600mg), Dolutegravir (50mg), and Lamivudine (300mg).
- How It Works: It stops the HIV virus from replicating and multiplying, which lowers the viral load in your blood and strengthens your immune system.
Primary Uses
-
- HIV-1 Management: Used to treat Human Immunodeficiency Virus type 1 (HIV-1) in adults and adolescents weighing over 40 kg.
- Immune System Support: Helps prevent the progression of HIV to Acquired Immunodeficiency Syndrome (AIDS) and reduces the risk of related infections.
- Note: This medication controls the infection but is not a cure for HIV or AIDS.
Common Side Effects
Most side effects are manageable and may improve over time as your body adjusts:
-
- Headaches, dizziness, or fatigue.
- Nausea, stomach pain, vomiting, or diarrhea.
- Insomnia, vivid or unusual dreams.
Precautions
-
- Hypersensitivity Test: You must take a genetic blood test for the HLA-B*5701 allele before starting. If positive, you cannot take this drug due to the risk of a life-threatening allergic reaction.
- Liver & Lactic Acid Risks: NRTIs like Abacavir can cause rare but severe lactic acid buildup in the blood (lactic acidosis) and liver complications.
- Pre-existing Conditions: Inform your doctor if you have a history of liver disease (especially Hepatitis B or C), kidney issues, heart problems, or high blood pressure.
- Do Not Stop Abruptly: Stopping antiretroviral therapy suddenly can cause your viral load to spike or make the virus resistant to future treatments.
